Alive Museum

 Mrs Eio bought some discounted tickets to Alive Museum weeks ago so the Eios better visit this place before the tickets expired.      

Interesting place to go with older children to teach them about illusion & 3D/ 4D art.

Em enjoyed the process. After taking 2-3 pictures, he is able to know where he should stand & what he should do to achieve certain effect.

El is too young to understand. In fact she knocked her head & tripped on a stairway as she thought she can continue to climb up the stairs when there’s a mirror reflection in front of her. Lol.   

After that, she became more wary of the surrounding. Well… She learnt. 😊 The museum is not crowded when we visit. So we are able to try out all the “stations” & truly enjoy ourselves & have fun.

 The dinner last night with hubby’s classmates was superb.   Like the tauhu telur, beef rendang, deep fried soft shell crab, fried fish in curry sauce, prawn & chendol. 

  
Sorry… The photos are not doing the food justice. Not very nice for me to do a close-up shot for all the dishes. 

So paiseh… 3 of his classmates treated the rest of the 15 of us. This is a halal restaurant not to be missed.

Giving Thanks & HIS names

Since our Thanksgiving tree & Rock of Salvation are up on the wall, it’s time Eio kids can make good use of them! (For our project, please refer to previous post on the Tree & Rock)    

   
El didn’t get to display her “drawing” on the rock, so Mrs Eio encouraged her to write words on the Rock using an Alphabet template. This is better than holding El’s hands to write as she can write more independently & Mrs Eio can take this opportunity to teach her to recognize some alphabets. 

  
This blue template is older than Eio Kids as it belongs to Mrs Eio. She used it during her Primary school days.  

   
   
 Good stuff (好料！）given out by Senior Pastor during last Sunday Church Service. Mrs Eio told Mr Eio that these are useful materials for Eio Kids so they have kept it beyond their reach for the past few days. 

  
Mrs Eio & Eio kids started of by singing “I will enter His gates with Thanksgiving in my heart.” She then cut out the “Give thanks for the bread & cup portion”. Em read out loud what’s on the paper, Mrs Eio did some explanation & Eio Kids paste them on the tree. Further re-enforcement of learning & explanation will definitely be necessary as Eio kids might not have comprehended everything in totality. Nevertheless, it’s a good start. 😊

 Mrs Eio cut out the “Redemptive Names of God” & “Truth of our Position in Christ” into smaller pieces according to the pointers. Breaking up these topics will make it more palatable & digestible for Eio kids. The learning of these 2 topics & the 2 songs above will probably continue for the next 2-3 weeks.

  
Today, Eio kids learn on 2 “Names of God”. They get read out one name each & paste them on the Rock. Mrs Eio have to explain the meaning to them. Otherwise, the reading makes no sense to these kiddos at all. Of course, their true understanding comes from the One that HE sends.

Nice ambience & cosy for a weekday afternoon.

 

Mrs Eio tried the cappuccino. Quite full bodied & bitter but she prefers lighter & slightly more acidic coffee. 

   
  

The waffles (S$8.80) are moist on the inside. The cafe staff said they make the waffles using the waffle maker but it’ll be more appealing if they can work on the presentation. The dark chocolate ice-cream taste good though.

Project Thanksgiving Tree & The Rock

The plastic corrugated boards had been sitting at a corners for 2 days. There’s a discount sale at Tampines Mall Popular store when Mrs Eio was there 2 days ago so she bought all the stationeries she needs for this project. She has been contemplating if she should buy some online stickers instead, but she simply can’t suppress the urge to DIY with the Eio Kids. Eio kids have been asking when they can start making their “thanksgiving tree” & the “rock of salvation”. Mrs Eio promised them today is the DAY! 

   
Our Tree & Rock will be on this wall. Before this, our thanksgiving corner is on the shoe cabinet. Quite pathetic…

Before we start work, we have a short briefing on that white piece of paper so Em knows what’s our overall plan. Well, El just wants to get started. There’s job distribution so they don’t fight over the same materials! Em is in charged of making the Thanksgiving Tree & El is in charge of doing the Rock. 

   

It’s not easy for Em to cut the corrugated board but Mrs Eio is well pleased with his effort.

 Our Tree is ready.    
El was bored after some time while Em is still quite focused on his task. Mrs Eio decided to make full use of El’s strength. She’s task to peel the double-sided tape. Those of us who have the “honour” to be scratched & pinched by her, sure knows how powerful her tiny fingers are!!!

    

Living in a democratic country, we “voted” to decide how we should paste the rock. Mrs Eio thought she should display El’s drawing on the rock but after discussing with Eio kids, we garner 2.5 votes out of 3 voters & “pass the motion” display the other side of the rock so that we can write words on it. (El is undecided so hers is the 0.5 vote. Lol)
  

Our rock & grass are ready. Mrs Eio needs to trim the sharp points so they don’t injure Eio kids.

Just when we thought we are done, Mrs Eio & Eio Kids decided to add some flowers. Em’s in charge of using a cup to draw circles & cutting them out. Mrs Eio maximises El’s gifting to peel double sided tape. 😁

KiFAS- Kindergarten Fees Assistance Scheme.

Today, Eio kids’ classmates’ mom1 is telling another mom2 that she saw mom2 at Blk xxx to “suum-pah” (took an oath)  this morning. Apparently, they have applied for KiFAS. 2 months back, mom1 was sharing with everyone at the entrance of the school that she’s unaware of this scheme, so she had been paying a lot more every month for her child’s school fees. 

Mrs Eio would like to share the link to the website with information on KiFAS. Parents who would like to apply for KiFAS have to obtain the application form from their child’s teacher. 

Hope families & our needy pupils can really benefit from this scheme & not lose out in their early childhood education. 😊

1st time with Quinoa

Mrs Eio’s 1st time cooking & eating Quinoa today. Read somewhere that the way to pronounce it is “keen-wah”. Wanted to try it because a TV program on channel 8 shared that it’s high in protein & nutritious. Btw, Quinoa is not cheap at all… Bought a packet of organic Quinoa months ago so better start cooking it. 😁 as you can see to cook quinoa, the quinoa to water ratio is 1:2. 

   
 
Mrs Eio is pleasantly surprised that quinoa smells like barley. It has a fluffy texture after cooking & not sticky like rice at all. (Despite its Chinese name is 小小米=tiny rice grain aka small-small-rice) lol. It’s chewy & nutty.   

  

Mrs Eio added gravy from her stir fried spinach & shitake mushroom. Well, Eio kids eats them all. Err… But they takes longer to chew.  

   

Well, whatever food Mrs Eio offers, Mr Eio & Eio kids just have to be thankful & EAT. Haha.

Planting with Eio kids

Since we have a front balcony at our new place, let’s make good use of it. Finally Mrs Eio get started with planting. 2 weeks ago, we started planting Lemon balm. After reading that it’s an “aggressive” plant. We decided that it’ll have a pot for itself so that it doesn’t “engulf” other plants.       

 Of course, not forgetting to tell the kids plants need air, good, water & sunlight & what’s photosynthesis etc… (as if they can fully understand the process.. Haha. Nevertheless, no harm sharing with them. ) Just remembered that Mrs Eio used to be a relief secondary Science teacher for 6 months after her A levels. The thing about planting with Eio kids is that they’ll check on the plants. So the next day, Em dug out his encyclopedia, put it beside the plant & started telling me about what’s writen in it. As you can see after awhile, El is totally not interested with what he’s talking about. Lol. 

    
 
Last week, we tried planting Chilli Padi from their seeds. Growing a plant from the seeds really test our patience. Em kept asking why the plant is not growing…

   
 
Finally after a week of waiting, the Chilli Padi seeds started to germinate & we can see the seedlings. Phew…

  
 
This Monday, we started growing onions so that Mrs Eio can have spring onion for her fried rice. Lol. We just bought a small pot of sweet Basil from Fairprice finest today & will start planting tomorrow after getting hold of some fertilizers. Will update our progress again. 👍

The significance of 7.7.2015

Few weeks ago, I’ve a prompting to tender my resignation. This prompting caught me by surprised as I’ve already successfully extended my no-pay-leave (NLP) till next year sept when El is 4 years old. Nevertheless, I emailed MOE to find out more about resignation. When MOE replied last week, I discussed this issue with Mr Eio. He’s very supportive & thinks that I should tender my resignation. 

When I emailed MOE to asked for the resignation form & enquire about the process, this date 7th July came to me. I was wondering what is this all about & at the same time I’ve been procrastinating about setting up a blog. So I told myself last week, I’ll start a blog by 7th July if I’m able to relinquish my role as a MOE Teacher by then. Days passed by & there’s no reply. I’m very busy & caught up with household chores & taking care of Eio kids that I almost forgotten about this. Lo & behold, I checked my email today, MOE replied me yesterday (6th July) evening. OK! There’s no way to run away from this. I submitted my resignation form today. Of course, I’ve to serve one month notice. But it really doesn’t make a difference since I’m on NPL. Henceforth, I’ve relinquished my role as an MOE teacher & taken up a role as a blogger today. This year 2015 is the year of Jubilee for Singapore SG50. In God’s Word, the Jubilee Year occurs after 7 sets of 7 yearly intervals (49 total) are finished.
