Sharing book care pointers at Em’s school

Mrs Eio was asked by Em’s school Vp to share about book care & act as a librarian to issue out the library books to Em & his classmates. Hmm… Come to think about it… Em’s vp has great confidence in Mrs Eio that she can engaged the K2 kids? Heehee… Will the K2 kids be running around in the classroom when she’s sharing?? Lol.

Mrs Eio intended to share 7 pointers on book care with the children. These are the materials that she prepared.

1) a board (recycled materials. Heehee) with the 7 book care pointers (save the time for mrs Eio instead of writing on the spot)

2) half done book marks (the children are to decorate it during the session)

3) A label for herself (librarian)

4) treats (halal chocolates)

5) stickers & coloring materials for the children to decorate their book-marks. The session will be conducted at their tea-break area, mrs Eio’s not sure of colouring materials will be readily available.

After greeting the students, Mrs Eio explained on why she’s here today. Em’s very excited.

Mrs Eio set 2 ground rules before starting the “lesson”. 1) Everyone must listen attentively to their friends when they are answering questions. 2) Mrs Eio has prepared little rewards (chocolate snack) for children who can answer questions correctly. Children who have gotten the chocolate snack must give the chance of answering questions to their friends.

Mrs Eio asked the students some introductory questions before sharing the 7 book care pointers with them. Mrs Eio brought with her one of Emmanuel’s book & his book mark made during his CL lesson to show his classmates.

Q&A time! The kids were very enthusiastic in answering questions. Everyone has a chance & all of them have gotten their “reward” including Emmanuel. Mrs Eio tried to reinforce their good behavior by reminding them of the “virtue flower” practice from their form teacher.

Some of the children said their classmate doesn’t understand English & another classmate can’t talk. Em did highlight this to Mrs Eio back at home. During Q&A session, Mrs Eio silented the class & encouraged these 2 little boys to speak up. We are all pleasantly surprised that they can understand her sharing. One of them answered the question softly but gave the correct answer. Another boy needed promptly & a little more help but he did well at the end of the day.

Activity time. The children are very excited to decorate their book marks.

Time to borrow books…

As a librarian, Mrs Eio issued out the books to the children. At the end of this “lesson”, she reminded them of the due date & thank the children for a wonderful time together. Thanks to Mrs Eio “PA” (her sister for joining her & taking photos.)

Before leaving, Mrs Eio was approached by the Vp & em’s Teacher again to be involved in the school’s SG50 lesson next week…
Err… She really need to check her schedule as she’s running late in fetching El… We shall see.  😊

Cafe Hopping

Nice waffle at Refuel (Bedok Reservior)

Mrs Eio was in need of a cup of coffee again days ago. Yes, she went to one cafe in the East – Refuel Cafe.

Rustic concept. Spaghetti & coffee are average. But Mrs Eio is pleasantly surprised to with the texture & taste of their waffle!!!

Mrs Eio wanna eat waffle that day but her body was also crying out for protein. Wallah!!! Refuel serves smoked salmon, scrambled eggs & greens on waffle. This really made her day! Well, as some might know, as of now Mrs Eio’s favorite waffle is from Hatters street cafe (Hougang). She tried other cafe & didn’t find the texture & taste that awe her so she didn’t expect much from Refuel. As you can see, mrs Eio had changed the scrambled eggs to sunny side up because she simply needed to see the egg yolk & swollow them down her throat. Lol. That’s how desperate she was for protein & something rich that day. She can be quite picky & hard to handle at times. Haha!!

Ta-da!!! When Mrs Eio “plunged” her butter knife into the waffle. Wow, it’s crispy. After she took her 1st bite, she couldn’t stop eating the waffle. Unlike some cafes that serve crispy waffle but it’s hard & dry on the inside or some waffles are simply too soft & chewy. Refuel’s waffle is crispy on the outside & just slightly moist & soft on the inside. Lovely! It’s the texture that she likes. The staff said they serve the same waffle for ice-cream waffle dessert. So if you order ice-cream waffles, they should taste the same according to them.

Mrs Eio don’t mind visiting Refuel again for re-fuel if she needs one but she’ll probably “zoom in” for the waffles only. 😊

Mrs Eio & her lover at Botanic garden

Mrs Eio is pleased to announced that her lover (aka Mr Eio) has graduated from his MBA course. Thank God for blessing us with this sponsorship & His grace for seeing us through this one year with many transitions & overseas experiences.

Today, the Eios are at the Botanic garden to take photos with some of Mr Eio’s classmates. (Didn’t seek permission to post their photos.. Err… Perhaps just the back view. Hee..)

Today’s an extremely packed day for Mrs Eio as Mr Eio has packed 3 meetings within a day!! So Mrs Eio has to lugged the kids everywhere while Mr Eio is having meetings.

They took some photos at the orchid garden before joining Mr Eio’s classmates at the swan lake.

Thanks to Mr Eio’s classmates, they have a professional photographer with them.

The kids are famished & Mrs Eio didn’t have time to have a proper meal today. So they settled their dinner at “food for thoughts”.

Nice place to settle meals with kids as the restaurant is very spacious & there’s a play ground nearby.

The food is average & pricey though…

Hectic day… But glad that Eios manage to join Mr Eio’s classmates for photoshoot & visit Singapore’s very 1st UNESCO world heritage site.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:28-34‬ ‭NIV‬‬

““And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin…

Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Em’s Primary School experience.

Today’s Em’s experiential learning trip to Chong Zheng Primary School. This is his second visit to a primary school to find out more about what’s waiting for him next year.

Mrs Eio went with Em again, but this time round El tagged along too.

Mrs Eio is very impressed with the student leaders in Chong Zheng. Once the parents & K2 kids were settled in the foyer, the student leaders handed out bottled water & their school newsletter (though dated 2014) to her.
Mrs Eio is glad that she’s able to join Em for his “canteen experience”.

This time round, the buddy-k2 student ratio is not 1:1 but 1: 3 so the K2 kids seems abit lost. Mrs Eio is trying not to interfere amidst the chaos. Lol.

Aiyah… The buddy led Em & his friends to the snack stall. Yes this stall has the shortest queue but eating tidbits (aka junk food) is really not what Mrs Eio wants Em to have for his morning break time. Control!!! Control!!! Don’t interfere…

Got Em a cheapo wallet online. Will “upgrade” next year Jan so that it’s easier for him to get his coins.

Em gotten himself “pillow snacks”. Oh gosh…

Mrs Eio & El’s hungry so let them “show off” to Em their food. French fries & spaghetti!! Em saw & salivated. Lol.

Mrs Eio thinks the food is rather expensive. The French fries is S$1. The spaghetti excluding the side orders are $1. Initially, Mr & Mrs Eio thought of giving Em 50cents per day for recess & prepare sandwiches etc for him to bring to school. Err… Might review this amount.

Em requested to his buddy to let him go for a second round of buying more food since the queue is shorter now. Good move! Not sure what he’s getting…

When Mrs Eio turned around after taking the shot above,  she realized El is still happily eating her spegetti. Self service…

Someone’s back from hunting…

Oh gosh… Em’s gotten french fries. Well… This is better than “Pillows”. Nevermind…

Wondering whose having canteen experience. Em or El. She’s still happily eating my spaghetti.

The students gathered at the foyer & the HODs led the parents for school tour.
The student leaders did presentations about the exhibits at the Solar Haven. Mrs Eio is impressed!

Em totally excited with their science experiment set ups.

Frankly, this is not the first time Mrs Eio’s here in Chong Zheng. She was here many years back to set up a booth & exhibits with her colleagues & students during the East Zone Recycling Day. She probably just got married then.

Chong Zheng’s P shared about the 21st century competencies. Oh mine… This is what Mrs Eio’s school has been involved in piloting before she left for No pay leave. This framework is imprinted in her mind… Nice lady, a teacher at heart. Mrs Eio has gained some tips from her sharing.

Well… Chong Zheng has shown great hospitality by sending their HODs to bring the parents for school tour & their P6 prefects/ student leaders to be the presenters. No doubt this might not be the first time these prefects are presenting about their Solar Haven but this shows how much the school leaders pay keen interest in things that they are engaged in.
Even if this is to “wayang” to the public, Mrs Eio thinks that it’s still very well done. Anyway, she don’t think Chong Zheng needs to “wayang” to attract more students as their phase 2C for Primary 1 Registration is always oversubscribed & required registrants to go through balloting process.

Err… But the Eios are staying more than 1km from this school. So… Not possible at all.

Food

Mrs Eio’s cup of Ginger tea

These few days, Mrs Eio is having diarrhea. 😓Gaining experience from brewing ginger tea for her sister couple of weeks ago (who is also having diarrhea then), she decided to brew some for herself.

Peel off the ginger skin. Sliced the ginger & boil them in water for about 10-15min. Add black sugar to taste. The longer we let the ginger simmer in the water, the spicier the tea will be.

Besides drinking ginger tea, Mrs Eio took charcoal pills which are easily available in pharmacies & probiotics.

VSL3- capsule form. Sometimes mrs Eio opens the capsule & add the power into Em’s milk.

Probiotics liquid drop (available at tampines one unity pharmacy) – this is for el who refuse to take the capsule above.

Mrs Eio’s cup of ginger tea must have black sugar. She has tried brown sugar etc but it just doesn’t taste right. Her mother-in-law used to brew this by adding tonnes of ginger.

Cheng black sugar- Product of Singapore!

The good thing about drinking ginger tea when one’s having tummyache is that ginger helps to expel wind from our tummy & makes us feel better.

Nevertheless, these are home-made remedies. If the problem persist, it’s still safer to consult a doctor.

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”

Updates on Eio plants

Btw, just to update on Eio kids’ plants since we are at the balcony. We have a new addition to our Eio plants family (drum roll!!!!!!!!!) – Aleo Vera!

Getting em to spot the differences in their leaves & identify the smell for basil & lemon balm.

Our onions are finally growing to become spring onions. The basil, Chilli Padi & lemon balm are all doing well.

The labels for the plants are done up using the left over materials from making thanksgiving tree & rock of salvation. So the shapes are kind of odd. Em wrote the EL names for the plants.

We used the basil leaves that we grow to marinate minced beef overnight. Added fish sauce & other seasoning. The next day, thawed the beef & stir fry with long beans. Taste good. 😊

Em & Science (Solid-liquid-gas)

Em loves this Encyclopedia. It’s one of the books that Mrs Eio thinks it’s a good buy. She bought it at a discounted price in Popular bookstore when El is not even born yet.

Em’s been asking my sister to read this book for him & he’s been asking her thousand & one questions. He’s currently interested in the  states of water. So Mrs Eio takes the opportunity to show him a simple experiment on how water change from Solid to liquid & gas.

Mrs Eio has been collecting egg containers recently. She’s still unsure what to do with them. For painting… Art…  Well… She can use one for this experient now so that she don’t have to wet the floor.

3 ice cubes. Waiting for them to melt & by tomorrow disappears from the containers. Using post-it to get em to participate.

Mrs Eio thought if she should set up a control experiment. But she just wanna do a simple experiment without much hassle. As long as she achieves her objectives & em understands, who cares… Haha!

姚太的淮山药材汤- Wild Yam Herbal soup

近日姚先生工作繁忙,吃不定时,姚太决定在这个长周末准备几道有益身心的佳肴。借此平台分享姚先生、姚太的大宝贝-凯,和小宝贝-宣都爱喝的汤–淮山药材汤。

Mr Eio has been really busy lately, so Mrs Eio decided to boil some soup for the family over this long weekend. Eio kids’ favorite soup- Wild Yan herbal soup.

懂得使用淮山(山药)此食材的应该知道它健脾养胃的功效。既然要煲汤,姚太就把其他能补气、活血、明目的药材也一同加入。

Many of us would know Wild Yam nourishes our spleen & improves digestion. Mrs Eio added other herbs to improve the taste & nutritional value of her pot of goodness.

凯超爱淮山汤,因此姚太得倒入至少1公升的水,利用特大的锅煮汤,才足够全家享用。

材料有:(ingredients)

淮山 (一条约新币$3.50~$4.50) -切丁。(huai Shan – Chinese wild yam)

药材(分量如下):
枸杞子、龙眼肉和红枣少许(燥热)、玉竹、党参、黄芪(若小孩不喜欢它的味道,可免)。(姚太会乘大减价时购买药材存在冰箱内备用。)(herbs: wolfberries, dried longan, red dates, solomon’s seal, dang sheng & Huang qi)

猪骨或半只鸡 (姚太偏爱超市所卖的Sakura 樱花鸡~$9.70一只)肉切块(pork or half a chicken- Mrs Eio highly recommends Sakura Chicken)

水大概1公升。(at least 1 litre of water)
盐少许。(salt to taste)
———

 各位可食用晒干的淮山。但凯喜欢吃煮熟的生淮山,姚太只好“投其所好”!

You can use dried wild yam too. (Photo above)

把所有材料放入锅中,就可开始煮汤了。

时间:45分钟 (placed all ingredients in the pot & boil for 45 min)

 为了节省能源和无须看火,姚太常使用La Gourmet 的万能锅。但有时为了节省时间,孩子耍脾气,手脚得快些,眼前若有特大happy call 锅,姚太也绝不忌讳使用!

Mrs Eio usually used these 2 pots to prepare her soup. Well… Of course, you can also use Tan-Yu pot, clay pot or Cornell pots etc whichever that suits your needs.

There’s no standard formula or the one-&-only way in cooking. Any recipes, tools or ingredients that can help a multi-tasking homemaker prepare a meal with ease is great help indeed!

好汤、好心情。祝所有网友们周末愉快!

Great soup. A pleasant day indeed! Enjoy…

Putting on His Armour!

THE DAY has come! We did the implementation of “lesson plan” last night. The kids were all excited to start decorating their armour. At the end of the day, Mrs Eio hope the kids can have fun & be able to identify at least one item of the armour. In addition, the kids can decorate their armour, put on the full armour & take a photo. The photo is to help them to recap this topic with their parents back at home.

There’s altogether 7 children in our midst last night but Mrs Eio will try to post photos of Eio Kids as it won’t be nice to post the other children’s photo without their parents’ consent. As the children join the activities at different timing, Mrs Eio amended the flow of activities. Some of the children started to work on the helmet, Breast plate & shield while waiting for the rest to join in. After doing 3 pieces of the armour & everyone has arrived, Mr Eio took over to teach the children, the different parts of the armour & the significance of them. After the children worshipped with 2 songs, Mrs Eio did a recap of the items that they had done during the 1st half of the session.

Part 2 started with the children decorating & labeling their belt & shoes. By then, the children were so excited that they already started putting on their belts, followed by breastplates. Mrs Eio is so thankful that there’s helpers around to assist the children to put on their armour.

Mrs Eio & the other helpers gave out the helmet, Shield & breastplate after the child was ready. Assessment of learning: The children were only able to receive their sword & take a photo in their full armour after identifying on of the items in the armour verbally.

Challenges😓

There’s a few challenges while executing the activites last night.

1) the children are of different age group. (2-8 years old) . Hence, only children above 4 years old are able to identify the items in the armour. Nevertheless, the children are very cooperative.

2) some children join in the activities at different timing. Mrs Eio are thankful to the capable helpers who help them catch up & also lending a hand to the younger children.

Things preempted 👍

There’s a couple of things Mrs Eio thinks she did correctly

1) the armour consisted of 6 items. The items were collected from the children after their have completed their task & redistributed to them at a later stage.

2) the children were extremely excited to receive the sword. Mrs Eio is concerned that they will be distracted or worst still is to start hitting each other after getting it. So the sword was given at the end of the session & given as a reward for identifying one part of the armour (for 4 years old & above).

After all the children had taken a photo of themselves in His full armour, Mrs Eio led them to close in Prayer before the children could have their refreshments.

Mrs Eio thinks there’s always room for improvement. She’s now toying with another idea but not sure if Mr Eio will approve her proposal. Lol.

“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Preparations to put on His Armour!

Mrs Eio wanted to try this out since a long time ago. Hopefully, all the kids can turn up & they will enjoy learning about His Armor tomorrow.
Mrs Eio included the use of some recycled materials. Eg. Using 2012 Tampines town council calendar as backing & holder for our shield.

A sense of nostalgia… Feels like Ms Chin waiting to execute / conduct the lesson after writing lesson plan & preparing worksheets/ materials for her students.

Are you able to guess what are all these for?

Well… Travel back to the present. Mrs Eio is excited. This time round the class size is smaller, the kids’ age group is much much younger & the venue is at home.

Sandals making in progress!
Getting El to try out…

Of course, Mrs Eio’s target audience includes the Eio kids. Getting all the children to decorate & label their armour. Hope everything turns out well tomorrow. 😊
