Fun at Changi Airport Terminal 3

Finally, Eios at Changi airport terminal 3 Star Wars photo taking.

Eio kids choose their costume & pose for the camera.

The plane can only hold up to 100 kg. Em’s very excited to get into the plane though it’s just for 1-2 min.

You will receive a hard copy of the photograph after the photo shoot.

After changing out of the costume…

The display is till 5th jan 2016. You may enlarge the photo below to check out the photo taking schedule, as well as the terms & conditions.

After photo taking, Em enjoyed this free slide ride at basement 2. It’s about 2 story high. The queue was not long that day. The children must be above 1.1metres. So El didn’t get to enjoy this slide ride.

It’s very much self automated. There’s only one staff mending this slide.

Em on the move!!

Parents can walk down the staircase to “fetch” your child or they can just simply walk up on their own. There’s another 4 stories high slide but the child must be more than 1.3m & above 7 years old to take the ride. It’s tougher for parents to “fetch” their children after they slide down as the child need to walk up the staircase & take a lift from basement to level 2 after sliding down.

The slide is just beside the playground. El continued with her play while em enjoyed the slide.

The children can do colouring  at basement 2 too. This area is just next to the water fountain. Food court & many food stalls are also at basement 2. Its really convenient.

In Singapore, Changi airport is not just a place to board the plane or touch down from other countries. It’s also a hub with many activites. A place for leisure & fun.

Story behind Em’s song “Thank you God for everything”

Past few weeks were long & busy. One of the nights was punctuated by Em spilling his full glass of milk on his table all the way to the floor & piano. Mr Eio was working OT. This happened when Mrs Eio was bathing El. Hoping to chase Eio kids to bed asap. Em’s pyjamas was wet. Milk was everywhere. When the Eios had a helper, this probably won’t be so frustrating. But now everything’s diy. Mrs Eio was speechless.

Em kept apologizing that he spilt his milk accidentally. Well… Em just swam a few laps during his swimming lesson that evening so Mrs Eio tried to control all her emotions as she cleared up the mess… But looking at the extent of the spillage, Mrs Eio had to bite her tongue real tight. Well… It’s worth it!

Eio kids has been running after Mrs Eio to read bedtime Bible stories with them every night. Frankly, by the time Eio kids are about to go to bed, Mrs Eio is absolutely “low battery”. Sometime, Mrs Eio hope to skip it all together. That particular night, she read the story of Abraham to Eio kids.  Eio kids gave thanks to God. Em prayed to Jesus to chase the rain away that afternoon as he wanted to have his swimming lesson. True enough, the dark clouds went away & it didn’t rain that evening. So em could have his swimming lesson. After the kids gave thanks to God, em sang this…

 Thank you God for Everything

Thank you God for a butterfly

Thank you God for everything

Thank you God for the land & the sea

Thank you God for everything

Thank you God for a beautiful tree

Thank you God for everything

Thank you God for fish that swim

Thank you God for everything

Everyone is so happy &

God created you & me.

Link to the song that em sang is attached below:
http://picosong.com/QsZG

Mrs Eio thought em learnt this song in the Sunday school but he said no… Em said,”these words just came into my head.” Mrs Eio googled & can’t find a song with similar tune & lyrics. Interesting… Once in awhile, em will blurt out songs like this.
Mrs Eio wondered if she had just burst out in anger & scolded Em when he spilt his milk. Will he still has a heart of thanksgiving & worship? He’ll probably be crying non-stop just before bedtime & the frustration & drama could overspill to Mr Eio who was home late that night.

Mrs Eio was glad that she exercised some self-control. Oh wells… This is life.

Eios @ National Gallery (Keppel Centre for Art Education)

Finally the National Gallery is opened this week. Eios make our trip there with lots of excitement & anticipation!
Mr Eio booked the tickets online. We thought we had to park at Funan center & walk over but we were so glad to find carpark in National gallery itself (basement).

Once our e-tickets were  scanned, our journey began…

Eio kids having fun with this maze- like structure. The gallery is actually quite big. So it’s good to grab a map at the entrance before proceeding.

Walk walk walk to another wing to enter the Keppel Centre for Art Education.

Mrs Eio loves the benches & chairs she sees along the way…

At the former Supreme Court holding cell. Em amazed at the toilet in the cell. Nowadays, kids seldom see squatting toilet right?

Look at the structures & designs…

Yes! Finally Keppel centre for art education!!

Due to the large number of visitors, we could only have 45 minutes in this centre.

There are a number of “work or exhibition rooms”. E.g, 1 room where the kids can colour & do different kinds of worksheets (different level of difficulties) FOC. The project gallery where the kids can do some crafts (chargeable).  Children museum etc.

Eio kids enjoyed themselves at the Art playscape. There’s a guide telling them stories & bringing them around the area.

Going up the slope for kids 1m (height) & below. El was fearful to go up alone.

How about having tea with papa…

Beware of crocodiles…

Finally, El went up the slope with Em.

Spot Mr Eio!

After the story telling session, the kids were free to roam around.

Roar like a tiger with the “tigress”! Lol.

After exiting from the playscape, eios went into the woods.

Rest time…

More chairs…

More galleries…

Tired & squatting around. Lol.

Victorious!!

Errr… Frankly speaking, Mrs Eio must say only the Keppel Centre for Art education is more suitable for El (3 years old). The rest of the exhibitions are more for the adults. Em could probably understand some of them as he asked thousand & one questions.

If you are bringing young children to the National gallery, Mrs Eio would strongly advise you to do so after their meals as there ain’t cafes or restaurants suitable for them. If you brought snacks for the children, you may want to exit the gallery & feed them outside as we really don’t want to dirty the place. (Not sure if food is allowed too…)

Time to go home… Mr & Mrs Eio will visit the gallery again. Err.. Probably just the 2 of them. Heehee…

Visit to the Fire station (Tampines)

Every Saturday from 9.00 am to 11.00 am is Fire Station Open House. (except for Jurong Island Fire Station). Eios decided to visit Tampines Fire Station on one of the Saturdays.

Eio kids were excited about this trip. Once we reached the station, Mrs Eio presented her Nric to one of the officers on duty at the entrance to exchange for an entry pass into the station.

The children visiting the station will receive the SCDF helmet. Once Eio kids put on these helmets, they were all ready to act as firemen!

When we were at the Tampines Fire Station, the alarm went off 3 times. The fire engines & ambulances went off immediately. What a busy day for our Civil Defence Force!

We are very grateful to the officer who took us for a tour around the station. With his wealth of experience (more than 20 years), we learnt a lot from his explanations.

Some hands-on & sitting in a fire engine.

Powerful water spray gushing out from the fire hydrant. All kids are excited to have a try to on off the hose.

Em’s turn… He tried a short while… let not waste water & give other children a chance to try it out.

This pole is 3 storey high.  The firemen could injured themselves if they are not careful when they are sliding down the pole.

In the command center… This is when we filled in the feedback forms. We were really pleased & truly enjoyed this trip.

Taking Fa mily photo before making our way home. Really appreciate our SCDF for saving lives & making Singapore a safer place to live in.

Thanks to our SCDF officer for our fruitful trip!

Individuals who want to learn more about scdf & parents with children should visit one of our fire stations this school holiday. For a group of more than 10 people, it neccesary to submit an online application.

Link as below:

http://www.scdf.gov.sg/content/scdf_internet/en/scdf_247/others/visit_our_fire_stations.html
For smaller group, you can just walk-in. Mrs Eio doesn’t want to disappoint Eio kids, so she called up the fire station a few days before the visit to make sure they are not holding any event on that sat.

Salute to our SCDF!

Transfer of learning. Role play at home after our Fire station visitation. It’s educational, on a non-sch day (sat), absolutely FOC. So what are you waiting for? 😃

Em’s letter to Mrs Eio

Mrs Eio is happy & sad at the same time. Em has been writing tonnes of letters to Mrs Eio for the past few months. Mrs Eio has taught Em to write cards for his friends. Nevertheless, all these started off as Em made Mrs Eio really angry one day so Mr Eio advised him to write a card for Mrs Eio to apologize to her. Soon, Mrs Eio has been receiving cards every morning. Followed by letters… Longer letters… These few days, Em has been making & writing “muti-pages” card (almost like a book with page number) to Mrs Eio. He even makes an envelope for his card. This is one of it…
Em used recycled card board found in our church’s anniversary Tshirts wrapper as the “recyclable paper” sign looks like a stamp.

When Mrs Eio read the letter, she must make sure there’s an obvious sign of opening the letter. Otherwise, Em will ask her why she didn’t read the letter…

SG50… That’s how much he loves Singapore.

Well… Mrs Eio is happy as there’s this channel that Em can communicate with her & express himself. However, she’s sad & disturbed as she’s receiving it every morning. Is she an angry mommy in Em’s eyes???

Em’s promise to be kind to Mrs Eio. How much he loved her. Hope Em will still remember how much he loves Mrs Eio when he grows up & has a girlfriend or after getting married. Lol.

Em usually make these cards early in the morning while waiting for Mrs Eio & El to wake up. So… He wrote “see you later”. So looking forward to see his mommy!

Deeply touched… After receiving Em’s letters for some time, Mrs Eio is quite sure He did not write all the letters to apologies. It’s a way to express his love for Mrs Eio.

Sweet lovely boy. It’s time for Mrs Eio to write letters to Em.

“To my dearest son, with ❤️.”

Eio’s election

Today, PSI more than 100 so Eio kids can’t have any outdoor activites. How? Everyone’s stuck at home… Since election fever is running high in Singapore now, it’s time for the Eios to cast their votes & run their very own election at home. Lol. Still hoping to bring the kids for one of the rallies. Missed one this evening as the kids are kind of affected by the haze & slept very early tonight.

Mrs Eio has been wanting to do something relating to voting & election with the kids after Em’s thousand & one questions on Singapore’s  upcoming general election.

Em & El can’t come to term with the toy box they wanna play with this school holiday. So yes, the opportunity has arised for Mrs Eio to get the Eio kids to vote.

Eio kids come up with their very own Party’s name & logo. Em’s Racing Party (RP) versus El’s Princess Party (PP). Pun? Lol.

Below is their Parties’ posters.

The only area designated to put up their parties’ posters is on the shoe cabinet. 😄

Impromptu ballot box & ballot paper.

Em told Mrs Eio that Mr Eio told him voting is secret so he has to vote in the room!

Well… Frankly it’s no secret at all. Em sure vote for his own party…

Hmm… He should fold the ballot paper into half before putting it into the ballot box.

Mrs Eio expects El to do the same as Em but she didn’t. She wanna do it her way since she’s sleepy as she missed her nap. Hence, her vote is invalid (voided ballot).

The voting result is out. Racing party win 75% of the total vote. Hence, Eio kids will be changing the train toy box to car box for this school holiday. Em’s feeling victorious!

Next, Eios need to elect a leader for the toy box. The 2 parties contesting for this post is… **Drum roll!!!!!!**

Mrs Eio’s Mama party (MP)  versus Em’s Racing Party (RP). Hahaha!! Pun again??
This is obviously an infringement of the election rules! The RP leader & member are influencing the voter.

Vote for Mama party!! The party logo is sexy lips. Lol.

Drawing on ballot paper again! Wasted vote.
Election result is out! Mr Eio casted an invalid vote! (Zzz… Telling us he’s sleepy)

So both MP & RP garner 25% of the total votes (same percentage) so they shall have a coalition government. 2 leaders in charge of the car box.

Hmm… Princess gets to “free ride”? No need to keep toys after playing?

Purely for the fun of it since the Eio kids have to wait for many years before they can cast their first votes during Singapore’s GE.

Voting is compulsory.  Your vote is secret!

May the best party win!👍

Parting the Red Sea

Mrs Eio had a little guest with the Eios weeks ago & they had a time learning about Moses parting the Red Sea.

Firstly, Em tried sharing the story of Moses parting the Red Sea with the younger children. Well… Mrs Eio took out a basin of water to show the children what it meant to part the water (Red Sea).

Next, The children made use of the recycled materials (from holding the IKEA curtain cloth) to make Moses’ staff. The children were decorating their staff.

Mr Eio showed the kids a 4 min video “Prince of Eygpt” on the TV. The part where Moses was parting the Red Sea & the song “there can be miracle” was played in the video.

After having some idea what was this story all about, the children were ready to part the sea.

Mrs Eio had 2 big blue towel. Good enough to be the “Red Sea”.

“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭14:21-22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The children took turns to part the Red Sea & led their “fellow Israelites (other children & their teddy bears) out of Egypt”.

Victorious!!!

Hope the children had a fruitful time learning & having fun!

Trapped air floats

Em comes home with a sail boat today after school. He says he wants play with it in the water & see if it can float. Mrs Eio realizes there’s a hole on the boat where he attached the sail so she tells Em the boat is likely to sink. Em is extremely excited & wanna Mrs Eio to let him try it out.

Well… Mrs Eio agrees to Em’s request but they can only conduct the experiment AFTER dinner. Heehee…

As expected, Em including El finish their dinner really quickly & it’s time to try out the boat.

Before trying out the boat, let’s have some theory lesson. Let’s see if the assumptions are true.

Mrs Eio & Eio kids decided to make 2 boats so that El could also participate. These are the materials that they use simply because they are what they have at home.

Mrs Eio just finishes using her kitchen paper towel so they can have the roll as one of the meterials.

Em names his boat Angiri-10. It’s the boat he took when the Eios were in Maldives June this year .

El’s boat is the control experiment. So they cut a hole underneath.

True enough. El’s boat sinks & Em’s boat is still sailing. They try sailing Em’s boat from school. It doesn’t sink as they have taped the hole. Strong wind from the balcony blows in & the boat moves without them touching. Em asks about the wind & sail.

El throws the toys onto the boat & so they discuss on incident where the boat sank as there’s too many people on board.

Not sure how much Eio kids comprehend but this experiment sure keeps them occupied for very long so Mrs Eio can wash up after dinner. 👍

7 ways Eio kids “self-service” at home (age 2-6)

After shifting to their new place this year, Mrs Eio decided it’s time for Eio kids to do more “self-servicing” at home as compared to the past since they are now older & this can save her more time & trouble. Eio kids can also learn to be more independent.

Nevertheless for some of the pointers below, adult supervision & guidance are absolutely necessary to ensure the children’s safety. The kids also need to know how to “self-service” correctly right from the start so that they need not unlearnt & re-learnt what they have already know. Patience are very much needed at the initial stage so parents try not to loose your cool when the kiddos miss the mark. (A reminder to Mrs Eio herself!) Mrs Eio stresses on age appropriateness & readiness of the child. In the long term, this will relieve the SAHM/ caregivers who are looking after the kids at home on their own.

 1) Place a stable stool at the sink for them to stand wash hands on their own.

Place hand towels lower (at their height) so that the kids can reach them easily to dry their hands.

2) Install/ Set up a lower laundry rack so that the kids can help to keep & sun clothes

Some days Eio kids helps to fold Mr Eio’s handkerchiefs.

3) Set up a work station (at least a table & chair) so that the kids know where to go automatically to complete their assignments or school homework. (Mrs Eio is still trying to refine this after Em goes Pri school. Probably a more conducive corner in a room… For the time being, Eio kids enjoys doing work at their windy front balcony.)

Just last months, Eio kids shared a table when their do work, but Mrs Eio soon finds them distracting each other. Her in-laws gave her another table. There are time they work together but it’s good to separate them to work at different places when necessary. 😊

4) Place books & a box of toys at the living room or at a corner so that they kids can play or read in the morning while waiting for mommy to wake up. Lol. Eio kids has been going to their play or reading area quietly in the mornings when they woke up earlier than Mrs Eio these days.

Books at the TV console & a box of train set etc. Messy as they’re very much in use. 😁

Mrs Eio separates the toys into a few boxes & the boxes are rotated every week so Eio kids have “new toys” to play with all the time. Lol.

Mrs Eio is sure most kids are told not to draw on the walls etc, it’s good if we can also provide an area or an easle /whiteboard for them to scribble & express themselves.

5) Use a jerry can or container with a tap for the kids to get drinking water on their own.

Place their cups (unbreakable) near the edge & at a height that they can reach.

El is pouring water for mama. Simply lovely!

**having a stool at the sink also allows the kids to wash their own cups after use.

Eio kids tell Mrs Eio that they can wash their own cup after use when Mrs Eio asks them to place the cups at the sink for her to wash.

6) Lower the shower head & place the children’s soup on a lower shelf so that they can bathe on their own.

Em is able to bathe on his own after some guidance. This really save Mrs Eio lots of time everyday & she can prepare meals etc while he’s showering. But she’ll do spot check once in awhile.

Ps. This photo is posted after having Em’s permission. 😄

7) Store/ place the socks & shoes at a good height within the children’s reach so that they can put them on on their own. (They must be taught how to put their shoes & socks on properly initially).

** Having a lower shelf to store clothes & socks or storing them in the lower compartments of a cabinet will also allow the kids to help us store their clothing after they have taken it from the laundry rack.

Others: Mrs Eio has tried getting the Eio kids to prepare their meals, lay the tables, clean the table after meals, vacuum & clean the floor etc etc but that’s not everyday for kids 2-6 years old. Well… They are still kids right? Lol.

Em is better & more particular in cleaning the area under the dining table. Lol.
The pointers above are not exhaustive. Mrs Eio is sure there are parents with very good tips too. Please share with us so that we can all benefit & make lives as SAHM/ main caregivers easier & happier!!! Cheerios!

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians‬ ‭4:13‬ ‭NIV‬

Kids/Children

El & her newly “invented” game

Mrs Eio bought a number of “cheapo” things for Eio kids from her visit to USA this March. These stuff are selling at usd $1 at Target. So she simply buy without blinking her eyes. Lol.

She still has some stock & is rationing/ taking out the “toys” only during “rainy days” when Mrs Eio is desperate & wanna keep the kids occupied.

For this long weekend, Mrs Eio took out these colourful rubber bands to tie El’s hair. It’s a packet for usd$1. After awhile, she decided to used some of them to teach El counting & colors.
Show mama the purple rubber band…

Counting…

Still counting…

Mr Eio decided to play a game with El by throwing the rubber bands into her small pail.

El’s turn to aim & shoot! She did it. Hi5 from papa.

The next day, El is asking everyone to sit down & play with her. She told us she has a new game to share with us.

Well… She arranged the rubber band like this & explained that whoever place the rubber and on the green plate is the winner! (Err… What is this 2 plus years old thinking about??)

After while, she said she’s making an improvement for her game & we must put the rubber band around micky’s head.

Some time later, she decided to walk around the house. She said she’s trying to think of ways to make improvement.

El came to Mrs Eio crying as she can’t think of ways to improve her game. We tried to console & affirm her that she’s doing a good job & she’s has come up with a nice game. We can slowly think of ways to improve it later on…

From this episode, Mrs Eio realised how creative human beings are. (We have a creative creator… It’s in our DNA! ) We innovate & constantly seek to make improvements.

It takes a couple of years for Mrs Eio to truly/ better know how to empathize with Eio Kids. El’s effort to “invent” a new game would be less appreciated & her frustration would seem ridiculous to Mrs Eio if this happened years back. Mrs Eio is still trying to adapt & learn as the kiddos grow but she can definitely understand their “lingo” after these years of “staying home”.

I hope this little girl’s desire to innovate & improve don’t stop here. Though we’ll face challenges, we will overcome!

We are overcomers in Him!!!
